SOUTHERN YELLOW PINE

One section of Campus LKR’s path system is called the LKR Path (Sections A to F on the map). Along this path, six sections have been planted with the most common tree species used in the production of VKR Group’s windows and doors.

ABOUT SOUTHERN YELLOW PINE

Southern Yellow Pine/Pitch Pine

[Pinus Palustr is], [Pinus rigida]

Growth Region: Common in the southern United States.

In 1990–91, this timber replaced Douglas fir in production at VELUX Greenwood. Southern yellow pine is a collective name for several related species. However, its processing for window profiles presented certain challenges. After some years, it became clear that switching to Ponderosa pine was a more practical choice.

It is very unusual to plant Southern yellow pine species in Denmark, and the specimens along the LKR path are possibly the only ones in the country.
