ABOUT APPLE ORCHARD
On the path near No. 20 Breeltevej, there is an apple orchard (H on the map). At the request of Lars Kann-Rasmussen, it was designed in autumn 2016 to commemorate the VKR Group’s 75th anniversary.
The apple orchard was inaugurated in June 2017 and spans 950 m², featuring rows of 100 columnar apple trees of nearly as many varieties. Over time, 75 apple trees will be selected to symbolise the company’s anniversary.
The apple trees represent species from, e.g. Denmark, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands, France, the UK, and the USA. Some trees originate from organically grown wild stock, while others belong to widely cultivated commercial varieties such as Filippa, Belle de Boskoop, and Spartan.
The selected varieties bloom over an extended period, enhancing the orchard’s seasonal beauty. The apple trees grow in a grass meadow interspersed with beds of wild strawberries and narcissus.
South of the orchard, a hedge of lilac and hawthorn provides a natural boundary. Scattered throughout the area are mulberry bushes and a few European walnut trees.
